Language Arts Homework:
This year in language arts your child will be expected to read on a daily basis both in class and at home. Students will be expected to read at home 20 minutes a night and complete a reading log that answers question about their book as well as ties in the skills that are being taught in class. The reading log is a homework assignment Monday through Thursday and is due every Friday for a grade. A parent or gaurdian signature is required so that I know someone has seen them completing the reading at home.
Students will be given a "Fiction/Non-fiction" paired reading passage every Tuesday. This assignment is due the following Tuesday so they have one full week to complete the assignment. They may turn the assignment in early to be checked ahead of time. I will then return it to them with any question that is not correct marked. They can then correct it and turn it back in. If they need help with the questions that they missed they may come in during intervention for help. I will only check the assignment once before it will count for a grade. Please be sure that they work on the assignments as soon as they get them so that if they have questions they have a chance to come in and get help.
There will be occasional vocabulary and content quizzes as well as tests that students will need to study for as homework. There may be an occasional additional homework but nothing on a regular basis.
Homework will be posted on Progress Book. It is a great idea to check Progress Book on a daily basis to keep up with homework. Checking Progress Book will also help you keep an eye on your child's grades in all of their classes. The grade portion of Progress Book is usually updated by most teachers on the team once a week.
