Study Tips:
Having good study methods and strategies for taking tests and quizzes will help you learn and remember more as well as score highter on your work. Everyone is different and strategies that work for one person might not work as well for someone else. These are some suggestions to try to use for studying.
You should always begin reviewing material right away. Don't wait until a test or quiz is assigned to start studying.
Don't cram all your studying in the night before the test. Study a little bit every day. Review what you have learned in class each day focusing on one topic at a time. By doing this you will store the information in your long term memory and rember it better, when you cram the information goes into your short term memory and you tend to forget it much quicker.
Keep all your study material out in front of you when you study. This may include text books, study guides, notes, handouts, etc.
Find a quiet, well lit area to study. Do not study in front of a tv or in your bed. (You will be tempted to watch tv or you may fall asleep in your bed.)
Find a comfortable and quiet place to study with good lighting and little distractions (try avoiding your own bed; it is very tempting to just lie down and take a nap).
Begin by learning the most important information first. Once you learn the main ideas then you can start studying the supporting details.
As you study and prepare for tests and quizzes take your own notes. Write down the important information to help you focus on the main ideas.
Take a short break often. Your brain will remember things better if you study for short periods of time rather than studying for an hour straight.
Be sure that you understand your information, that it makes sense to you. Don't just read through the information and memorize it.
If you decide to study with other people make sure that they are serious about studying and will really work hard to study, not goof off.
Make a practice test for yourself or have someone quiz you so you can see what you know and what you need more work on. You can use end of chapter tests, study guides, or practice tests/quizzes to help make your practice test.
Sometimes studying is just boring. To help with this bordom try listening to classical or jazz music. (NOT music with words as that can be a distraction.)
Don't stay up later than normal studying. Instead try studying when you get home from school or early evening. If you are a morning person and have time before school or during homeroom use that time to look over study materials as well.
